Content in the service is from a variety of sources. Several collections formed part of the Digital Images for Education Project. The selection policy for that project is explained at http://imagesforeducation.org.uk/about/ (archived). Additional collections were previously in the NewsFilm Online service which contained material from a separate project. Its selection policy is described at http://www.jisc.ac.uk/whatwedo/programmes/digitisation/bufvc.aspx
JISC MediaHub includes records from many different collections, which have been gathered over time and by different people. The information they chose to collect was different for each collection. This means that some collections include more information than others, and so they are more likely to be returned in a search.
JISC MediaHub includes records from many different collections, which have been gathered over time and by different people. The information they chose to collect was different for each collection. Some thought date was important for their collection and gathered this information in a specific field, others sometimes put it into the description and others did not collect date information at all.
So when you filter by date it is only possible to find records that have the date in a specific date field, for example a news item that was broadcast on a particular date.
No, the filter only allows refinement by decade.
The search box at the top of the page searches the following fields in JISC MediaHub:
Support is offered at two levels for the service. EDINA, as the service provider, can be contacted for any issues regarding the interface or content. In addition, there is a network of institutional contacts who are best placed to deal with local problems including technical issues. Please contact the EDINA helpdesk in the first instance who will deal with your enquiry directly or put you in touch with the most appropriate alternative contact.
Yes, these are available via the help & support link within the interface. In addition JISC Digital Media offer a range of support materials and training on still and moving image resources.
We expect to offer SRU and/or Z39.50 access no later than 1 August 2011.
There are two different types of information in JISC MediaHub: content and metadata. What you can do depends on the type of information you want to use and where it has come from. Use of metadata is governed by the JISC MediaHub Terms of Service. Use of content is governed by licences and agreements of the owners; some by the JISC Collections sub-licence and others by the terms and conditions outlined by content providers on their own sites.
Content that is in
JISC MediaHub
is indicated by a
symbol. This is governed by the JISC
Collections MediaHub sub-licence between JISC and your
subscribing institution and you must adhere to the terms of that
sub-license.
Please refer to the JISC MediaHub Terms of Service , which explain what you can do with the metadata in JISC MediaHub in the section “Use of (metadata) records from JISC MediaHub”.
Some collection owners allow JISC MediaHub to search their collections so that you can find content from many sites through a single JISC MediaHub search. Although these collection owners share their metadata with JISC MediaHub, they keep the content on their own websites. This means that you might find a record in JISC MediaHub but be redirected to a third party site to view that content.
If you find a record in
JISC MediaHub
indicated by a
or
symbol you will be redirected to a third party site to view the
content. You must check the terms of use on the third party site
to determine what you can do with that content. While we try to
provide links to relevant terms of use for content on third party
sites, it is your responsibility to check terms of use before
using such content.
Metadata is the name for the textual information that describes the content you can search in JISC MediaHub. For example, a photograph is content; the name of the photographer, the subject in the photograph and the date the photograph was taken are all metadata elements that describe the photograph. Together, these metadata elements constitute a metadata record.
When you search you will see a page of brief results, with small
images and brief descriptions of the records. The brief results
page will look something like this:
When you click ‘View Full Record’ you will see a fuller
description of the content which will include a link to the
content where it is held (either within
JISC MediaHub
or on a third party site). The full record page for content inside
JISC MediaHub
will look something like this:
There are two ways to find this out:
